The Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning lost its founder and longtime president on Friday, January 7. Dr. Riordan was working on completing his trilogy, Medical Mavericks, volume three, when he collapsed at The Center he created and loved.
A past president of the American Holistic Medical Association, Dr. Riordan was interested in treating the whole patient – mind, body, and spirit. He invited patients to become “co-learners” who got more involved in the discovery of the underlying causes of their illness.
As a friend and admirer of Dr. Linus Pauling, Dr. Riordan carried on his research legacy, investigating the use of orthomolecular doses of vitamin C for chronic illness of all sorts, including cancer. Orthomolecular means “right molecules” based upon individualized nutrient measurements.
Dr. Riordan believed in hard work, devoting long hours to the creation and growth of The Center. He was looking forward to The Center’s 30 year anniversary celebration later this year.
His work will be continued by over 70 dedicated employees, volunteers and consultants.
Those who are moved to honor the memory of Dr. Riordan and wish to help carry on his vision can contribute to the Hugh D. Riordan Foundation or The Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning International, Inc. We sincerely thank those who have already done so.
