I am a sugar-like molecule found in all living things. • Although virtually all mammals can make me in their livers, you are a mutant human and cannot. Primates, Guinea Pigs and Fruit Bats are mutants too.
• I must be obtained from certain foods. It is virtually impossible to obtain sufficient amounts of me without using nutritional supplements, because I am MUCH MORE than just some ordinary vitamin!
• Since all mammals manufacture 50 mg/kg or approximately 23 mg per pound of bodyweight, if you weigh 100 pounds you need to consume about 2,300 mg daily.
• Since my half-life is only 30 minutes, I should be taken in 5 divided doses of 500 mg, about 3 to 4 hours apart. If you are under stress or illness, you may require hundreds of times more than this. See Cathcart Bowel Tolerance

I do not cause kidney stones, damage DNA, or interfere with B12 absorption.

Since I resemble sugar (glucose), high blood sugar levels will impair my absorption. I am absorbed by glucose transporters, by sodium transport and by passive diffusion. I am also known as Ascorbic Acid.
